I’ve finaly realized what the sceptics were talking about when they said that I couldn’t expect to win 2 buyins a week over a longer period of time. Nothin’ comes for free obviously. What started out as looking to be a walk in the park has turned in to a nightmare that makes Britney’s life seem like a bed of roses! As you can see in bankroll counter and chart to the right, for the first time within lifetime of the project I’m behind schedule of the “1000 days of bankroll evolution”-plan, and it S*CKS!
The variance of poker has gotten under my skind and even though I, every time I sit down to play, promise myself that I will not let bad beats influence my play, I find it hard to avoid, when the fish at Carbon Poker rivers his 4-outer for the fifth time in a row! Friday night I was really depressed, I cursed Carbon Poker and thought of closing down the project and never play poker again. But hell NO - I’ve decided to stay around a little longer and fight for fame and glory!
Poker videos
As I wrote in an earlier post, I would soon choose my first poker learning tool and is there a better time than right now?! NO! The choice is fallen on online poker videos - a fast growing market with lots of material of fluctuating caracter. I’ve decided to signup for a danish site called Pokeruniversitetet (The Poker University), which is founded be two online pros - Tune Seidelin and Theis Kristensen. The reason i chose online poker videos in the first place, is that, I spend so much time in front of my computer, and I might as well try and learn something while I’m here right?! The fact that it became Pokeruniversitetet who now gets a little free commercial here and not some of their foreign competitors, might be due to the fact that their videos are in danish, which makes them slightly easier for me to understand and thereby it should be faster to apply theyr ideas to my game - at least I hope so - I need improvement now!!
The price for being a member of Pokeruniversitetet is aproximately 18$ a month which I expect to give a solid return of investment (ROI).
As I said there are lots of alternatives. The most obvious ofcourse is Cardrunners which has produced videos with online pros for a long time and is very popular, but also a little more expensive as the price is 25$ a month plus a signup fee of 100$. Another fastgrowing poker video portal is Pokersavvy, which costs the same as Cardrunners minus the signup fee. Pokersavvy has recently joined Mike “The Mouth” Matusow to their team of contributors. Pokersavvy offers a lot of free stuff, free money at signup, different languages + a 7day trial period for free, so it’s definately a place I’m planning on looking further into, and I would choose it over Cardrunners at any time.
The free alternative to sites as the three mentioned above is of course content communities like YouTube and
PokerTube where you will find lots and lots of poker videos with people playing online too - only thing is that you should be aware of the quality and skills of the author of the videos. You should expect to find a little more quality at FlopTurnRiver.com - and still these poker videos are for free
If you have a favorite poker video site of your own that you think I, and the other readers of Within1000days should hear about, just shout!!
Ahhh … you are now learning, grasshopper, that you must now cultivate luck through the poker gods since skill will not be enough to win when you should …
Dang thats some bad run you’ve got on there. I know what thats like, the fish suckout happening over and over again, very depressing. I was thinking that you might avoid this problem by playing at that blind level, but is seems the fish are rewarded for stupidity there too huh. Well just slow it down and maybe take a short break while learning.
It will come back your way, crack the 2500 then 3000.
Good luck!
Hey guys,
Ty for the cheering up! I knew this blog was a good idea if you want to take poker a little more serious - I feel much less tilted already!
/I will not prove you wrong…
I’m sure someone once said of poker that for a beginner luck is 80% of the game and skill 20%, but that throough knowledge and experience it becomes 20% luck and 80% skill.
If they didn’t, then they should have
