Welcome to my Nordic Top Pair Live Blog
On the live blog you will find live updates on my “whereabouts” in the Nordic Top Pair Competition in Tallinn the first weekend of May.
4th May - Leaving on a jetplain…
30 minutes in Copenhagen airport before my flight home. What else to do than to deliver a last briefing on the live blog:)
As stated below, the second tournament didnt get the desired outcome. The cash game later on did though where I after folding AK after I had rr pre flop - I showed and the other guy (very nice one by the way) showed AA - weheee:) The hand after I pick up AK once again and this time I’m faced with a rr from the BB. I reason that he might think I was on a small tilt and I moved allin. He called with AQ anf ofcourse the flop came with a /&%#¤”¤% Q. Down 3000 EEK but I managed to win it all back plus 4000 as two or three drunk Estonians were more than eager to call down with 4th pair:D
Now I look forward to come home and get a good nights sleep before everyday life probably hits me like a hammer monday at 7AM!
If any of you guys from Tallinn have stumbled your way in here - thank you very much for funfun weekend in the name of the best game in the world!
3rd May 9 PM - Team Jungs gets bat beated!
Allinn with AK against KQ on a 27K flop and 99 against KK made the second tournament a short (but stormful) relationship for Team Jungs:)
3rd May 4PM - 5th place for Team Jungs
5th place aggregate for Team Jungs after the first of two competitions, Hans ended in 6th place at the other final table.
3rd May 2.30PM - Both Team Jungs players at Final Table
Ended 5th at the final table, Hans is still playing at the other final table.
3rd May 2PM - Final Table!
I‘m at the final table, and doubled with AK in the first hand, got one player out.
3rd May 1PM - Team Jungs still going strong
Both Team Jungs players are playing with about average chip count. 20 players back in my competition, and have doubled against Mads Andersen.
3rd May 11AM - Team Jungs off to a good start
Team Jungs are hereby declared ready to defend the flag! After dinner last night, we set off to Reveal Casino Tallinn - a casino that gave the word kitsch a whole new dimension! If you have seen the East European countries contribute to the Eurovision song contest, you what I’m talking about:)
Well 4 hours, 1 sitngo and 2 hours of cashgame for my teammate we left with a plus of 5500 EEK - approximately 600$, secured through a 2nd and 3rd place in the 1000 EEK sitngo we both played and AA getting full payment in the cashgame for Hans. We are ready!
Todays NTPC program says 2 tournaments each, both running parallel so that we will never meet each other at the table, but instead there are two sets of final tables -at least thats how I understood it:)
Prizepool:
- 1st: 25.000$
- 2nd: 10.000$
- 3rd: 5.000$
Hope to be able to give more updates along the way!
Cross your fingers for Team Jungs:)
2nd May 7PM - Champagne at Hotel Olympia
Along with 68 other poker players (among them some danish semi-celebs - Lasse Rimmer, Dan Rachlin and Brian Nielsen) we arrived at the beautiful (at least in relation to Tallinn in general:-) Hotel Olympia where a banquette of snacks and champagne waited for us to get consumed - and consumed it was!
We now have about 1 hour at our room before dinner. Nighty night from Estonia:)
1st May 2008:
Thursday is now officially NTPC warmup day! I’ve flewn to Copenhagen where I’ll stay with the country’s hottest (as in “in form”) poker player (at least thats what he tells). I hope he’s right, cause he will be battling it out at my side in Tallinn:)on
At the moment its 1 PM and tonight menu says online grinding at carbons virtual felt, before we fly out to Tallinn, Estonia tomorrow around 3 PM. More tomorrow, gl at the tables:)

25. April 2008:
The departure for Tallinn and the Nordic Top Pair competition is moving closer and today I received the passenger list for the plane. To my surprise I saw that the tho danish poker pros Mads Andersen (former world champion of backgammon and winner of EPT Copenhagen 2006) and Philip Hilm (best danish performance ever in the WSOP Main Event - nr. 9) are attending as part of the Betfair delegation. Hopefully I’ll be able to learn some of their skills:)
30. March 2008:
The final satellite of the Nordic Top Pair Competition is over and the “Jungs” are ready to fly to Estonia and play some more pair poker all payed by Betfair Poker. The ticket was booked through 3 final tables early on which luckily held up and secured us a 8. place on the leaderboard! WEHEEEE….
14. February 2008:
Almost before the last digit in 2007 had turned 8, my friend (aka CP2008, HIversen and more) registered for Betfairs latest promotion - NTPC, or Nordic Top Pair Competition. In short, NTPC is the unofficial scandinavian championship of pair-poker. As the name Nordic Top Pair Poker indicates, you participate in teams of two players and battle it out in 3 races:
- Longterm Betfair (BF) points leaderboard
- Weekly BF points leaderboard
- Satellite leaderboard
Winners of the leaderboards of their respective countries are flown to Tallinn and accommodated at some Casino I don’t know the name of, where they compete to represent their flag in the scandinavian final held in beautiful Barcelona!
On top of the world
Now you might think, why the freaking f… is the gubby telling me this?! Well, somehow this little fish dodged its way to 3 final tables (+ HIversen took a runner up in the very first NTPC tournament), placing team “Jungs” (danish slang for guys/friends) on top of the world - well on their way to battle it out in the exciting (who said irony?) Tallinn
So I guess the moral in this little brag about NTPC is that (if we make it to Tallinn) even without money to buyin to all the big satellite tournaments, you will be able to find promotions like Nordic Top pair Competition that give you the chance of getting that little extra poker experience after all:)
